Lydia Kirschenbaum
Young artist in residence '25

Lydia Kirschenbaum (age 20) is a historical violinist who explores her love of the Baroque, Classical and Romantic styles through informed and thoughtful music making. Currently she is studying at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with Shunske Sato and Sayuri Yamagata after finishing her secondary education at St Mary’s Music School in Edinburgh on modern violin.

For the year of 2024-25, Lydia was invited to play as a young fellow with the Holland Baroque for their concert year around the Netherlands. She has participated in numerous exciting historically informed projects and developed her love for the abundant collection and colours of stylistic performance. This includes multiple projects around the Netherlands with the Sweelinck Baroque Orchestra, the CvA Orchestra of the Romantic Style with Johannes Leertouwer, as well performing solo and with a trio on the radio program Concertzender Actueel, attending the St Andrews Baroque Course with Rachel Podger, and various ongoing projects.

Beyond her love for music, Lydia is passionate for the world of literature and writes poetry regularly. She also explores working with contemporary composers to incorporate her poetry into music.
